Activities and Special Events

In addition to our regular monthly Speaker Series, ACS PS often participates in local marine festivals. Members usually staff an educational table and talk to festival goers. See more about those activities under Educational Outreach.

Additionally, from time to time the ACS Puget Sound Chapter formally or informally participates in special events such as film screenings, conferences, or tours of NOAA facilities. Sometimes these are official gatherings or fundraisers, sometimes they are interesting whale related outings.

Conferences

Every two years we participate in the American Cetacean Society International Conference. In 2002 the Puget Sound chapter hosted the conference at Town Hall. On the off years, although the Puget Sound chapter does not have an official presence at the Society of Marine Mammology biennial Conferences, many Puget Sound members attend. more.

OrcaSing

OrcaSing is a special event that occurs annually on the Saturday closest to the summer solstice. This is a City Cantabile Choir, event, directed by Fred West. We gather at Lime Kiln Park on San Juan Island to listen, celebrate, picnic, socialize, and pay tribute to the Southern Resident Killer Whales. more.

Springer Reunion

Several ACS PS members participated in a celebration of the fifth anniversary of Springer reunion with her pod. more.
